Shrek at pantages
The performers were far too talented for this production, which was meandering and lacked focus. Bring Me The Horizon was not what I expected after reading the glowing reviews. My first thought was "This was on Broadway?" There are too many plot lines, characters and mediocre songs crammed in this musical. It feels forced. "Freak Flag" doesn't come until the end of the second act, and it's performed by the much underused storybook characters, the stand out number. They could have a musical all to themselves. Much of the show is forgettable, as are many of the songs.
The pantages is also at fault, as it is a mediocre venue. The sound is muffled, and the ushers do not seem to understand the full extent of their job. At the show I attended, children were running up and down the aisle and standing on their seats. They should behave or be asked to leave. This is not The Wiggles. It's an expensive theater production. The audience should behave or be asked to leave. I've never seen anything like this before.
